Your solar system earns money in two ways.
Most people only know about one.

The electricity savings are real. But every kilowatt-hour your system generates also creates a certified, tradeable carbon credit under India's domestic carbon market. That credit has a price. Suryaion calculates it, aggregates it, and routes the income back to you.

Three things you need to know
about carbon credits.

What is a carbon credit

One carbon credit equals one tonne of CO2 prevented from entering the atmosphere. When your solar system generates electricity, it replaces power that would have come from a coal-heavy grid. That avoided CO2 is measurable and certifiable. Once certified, it becomes a tradeable asset.

Who buys them

Corporations with net-zero commitments purchase verified carbon credits to offset emissions they cannot yet eliminate. Under India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme launched in 2023, domestic credits are increasingly in demand from Indian corporates meeting regulatory and ESG targets. International voluntary market buyers add to this demand.

Why you have never received any

Carbon registries require projects to meet minimum volume thresholds, typically hundreds to thousands of tonnes per project submission. A single 5kW rooftop generates 8 to 10 tonnes per year. No individual generator โ€” residential, commercial, or industrial โ€” can meet registry thresholds alone. Suryaion solves this by aggregation.

You could not do this alone. Together you can.

Generators in the pool range from 8 to 10 tonnes per year for a residential 5kW system to 60 to 80 tonnes for a 50kW commercial rooftop. The registry minimum is typically 500 to 2,000 tonnes. The maths is simple: no individual generator can cross that line. But a pool of registered generators reaches certification threshold together.

Suryaion manages the entire process: registration, monitoring, third-party verification, registry submission, credit sale, and income distribution. You register your system. We do the rest.

1

Register your installed system on the Suryaion platform for free

2

Your generation data joins the pool and is monitored automatically

3

When the pool reaches threshold, we submit for third-party verification

4

Credits are issued, sold to corporate buyers, and income distributed proportionally

Carbon Credit FAQ

Almost nothing. After initial registration, Suryaion connects to your inverter's monitoring system to pull generation data automatically. Where API access is unavailable, we provide a simple monthly reporting tool. Verification, registry submission, credit sale, and income distribution are all handled by Suryaion. Your only ongoing responsibility is keeping your system operational.
The first credit issuance typically occurs 12 to 18 months after system registration. This accounts for the time needed to accumulate sufficient verified generation data, complete third-party verification, and receive registry certification. After the first cycle, income is distributed annually based on the previous year's verified generation.
Suryaion deducts a facilitation fee from gross carbon credit sale proceeds before distributing to registered generators. The fee covers the cost of monitoring, third-party verification, registry fees, and sale brokerage. There is no upfront cost to register your system. The net income figure in your assessment report reflects an estimate after facilitation fees.
Yes. Any functional rooftop solar system can be registered on the Suryaion platform regardless of when it was installed or which installer completed the work. Historic generation data may be usable for credit calculation depending on the monitoring data available. Contact us at office@suryaion.com to discuss your specific system.
Yes, verification is always carried out by an accredited third-party auditor, not by Suryaion. We work with verifiers accredited under Gold Standard, Verra, and the BEE Carbon Credit Trading Scheme. This independence is what gives the credits market credibility and allows them to be sold to serious corporate buyers at meaningful prices.
